SME Server support

Gormand Pty Ltd is central to the development of the SME Server. Our Technical Director, Gordon Rowell, has led every release of the SME Server since e-smith 4. We developed many components of SME Server Release 7, including the software installer, spam filtering, attachment blocking and virus scanning.

We provide software support for the server to resellers so you can support your customers:

  • Pre-installation advice - hardware compatibility, server features
  • Upgrades from Mitel 6040 Office Server Suite
    • Advanced spam filtering - reject spam at the front door
    • Complete address filtering - stop "joe-job" spam and spam "back-scatter"
    • Easily direct mail for your domains to different users
    • Attachment blocking - reject EXE, ZIP, PIF and similar files
    • Automated virus scanning
    • Reject spam and viruses before they reach your internal mail server
    • No limits on the number of groups
    • Improved integration and filesharing for PC and Mac networks
  • Support for upgrades from previous releases and new deployments
  • Advice about compatibilty of add-on packages
  • Analysis and prioritised resolution of reseller bug reports
  • Early access to workarounds, patches and pre-release packages and images
  • Email and web-based trouble tracker
  • Reseller information list
  • Prioritisation of features for future releases
  • Custom software development (at additional cost)

Planned features for future releases include:

  • Mailing list support
  • Backup to removable disk
  • Vacation messages and other autoresponders
  • Problem tracker
  • Web site content management systems

Our support is provided on a simple per server, per year basis. We do not have set limits on support requests, but reserve the right to apply a "reasonable use" limitation. We focus on supporting you as a reseller so that you can provide the best possible support to your customers.

We do not normally provide front-line customer support. Instead, we provide escalation support backed by our deep technical knowledge of the SME Server and Linux.

As a reseller, we expect you to:

  • choose, install and maintain compatible hardware and Internet connectivity
  • undertake the installation and management of your SME Servers
  • deal with desktop support and network configuration issues
  • handle issues related to third-party software installed on the servers
  • be comfortable with reading log files
  • be comfortable with using the Linux command line, although experience with Linux is not required
